Throughout this chapter, we have emphasized the importance of keeping vocabulary work going and using words outside of class. These strategies are essential to learning new words because words can only truly be learned through use. The need for multiple uses become even more critical at the upper grades because the words are more sophisticated and more multidimensional and distinctions more subtle.

Assignment: You will use what you have learned in this chapter to create a lesson for a week of vocabulary instruction. Select a book, story, or text. Decide which words you would like the children to learn. Create your lessons around the words you've chosen to use. Implement the activities in which children have to engage with the meanings of the words you have chosen prior to responding to the lesson.

Your Original Post: Please post a message sharing how the quest for your tier two words went, what thoughts you had on the process and how you may use this in other subject areas beside reading.
Your Response to Others: Please read and reply to your colleagues' posts. You do not need to reply to everyone's but must respond to at least two other postings.

With the group, share your thoughts on how the development of the activities, how the presentation went, and the results of your lesson.
